About Dr. Meden
Dr. Robert Paul Meden, AIA, joined the ACBA team after an extensive teaching career which included stops at Kent State University (OH), Mount Vernon College (DC), Ball State University (IN), and most recently at Marymount University (VA), where aside from being a full-time faculty member, he served as department chair, Associate Dean, and the women’s soccer coach. Bob received his degrees from Kent State University (BArch and MArch) and The Catholic University of America (DC), where his dissertation centered on the use of contemporary lighting techniques in history spaces. Dr. Meden has also received national recognition for his efforts with preservation awards from the American Society of Interior Designers, including the ASID Scalamandré Historic Preservation Award and two ASID Dora Brahms Awards.
Having successfully completed the NCARB (architecture) and NCIDQ (interior design) exams, Bob has had the opportunity to work on design projects which have included the White House, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, and the Treasury Building, all for the National Security Agency. He has also worked on several preservation projects, including Union Station and Germania Hall, Indianapolis, IN; the Kent Railway Station, Kent, OH; the Miami County Courthouse, Troy, OH; the Robert E .Lee Boyhood Home, Alexandria, VA; and Lawnfield, President James Garfield’s home in Mentor, OH.
Adding to his preservation knowledge were employment stops with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Albany, NY; the National Park Service, through the Technical Preservation Services (DC), and the Historic American Engineering Record (WV and NY); the National Trust for Historic Preservation (Shadows-on-the-Teche, LA); and the American Institute of Architects. Along with an appointment as a commissioner for the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board, Arlington, VA.
