Alumni Spotlight: Steven Koch & Noah Pasquinelli

ACBA alumni Steven Koch and Noah Pasquinelli recently brought their stone carving skills to a meaningful project for St. Reweis Coptic Orthodox Church in Wesley Chapel, Florida. The project consisted of two matching 7' x 2' relief carvings depicting the church’s namesake, St. Reweis. Their design was based on an icon painted by iconographer Dalia Sobhi, challenging Steven and Noah to translate a two dimensional image into a semi three dimensional carving while preserving the character of the original artwork. Steven revealed that “the real hard part was doing a semi-3D version of it while still keeping a similar look to the printed icon.” With this taken into account, particular attention was given to the face and the precise centering and spacing of the halo around St. Reweis’ head. Overall, their great attention to detail yielded this incredible finished product for the church. Steven and Noah ultimately have demonstrated how traditional craft can interpret sacred artwork while creating something designed to endure for generations.
